Perquimans County and the Jim “Catfish” Hunter ALS Foundation to Unveil New Sign at Catfish Hunter Fields

Hertford, NC

Perquimans County and the Jim “Catfish” Hunter ALS Foundation are proud to announce the unveiling of a new sign at the Catfish Hunter Softball Fields on Wednesday, October 15, at 3:30 p.m.

This new sign symbolizes the enduring partnership between Perquimans County and the Foundation—one that began in 2010, when the County renamed its softball complex in honor of Jim “Catfish” Hunter, the Hall of Fame pitcher and Perquimans County native whose legacy continues to inspire generations on and off the field.

“Jimmy Hunter represented everything great about our community—humility, hard work, and heart,” said Guy Webb, Director of Development for the Jim “Catfish” Hunter ALS Foundation. “This new sign is a reflection of both his memory and the commitment Perquimans County continues to show to families affected by ALS.”

The new signage serves as both a visual and lasting reminder of Hunter’s legacy, his connection to his hometown, and the ongoing mission to “Strike Out ALS.”

“This partnership has always been about more than sports” said Webb. “It’s about community, compassion, and honoring a local legend whose impact still resonates across North Carolina and beyond.”

The public is invited to attend the unveiling ceremony. Representatives from the County, the Foundation, and ALS patients will be in attendance.
